May twin towers ang NU - Aquino and Gaye; Ateneo - Ikeh and Go, Halos lahat meron.

From UE Dawn:

P.E. Director Rodrigo Roque Confirms that Management Does Not Want an Import, Upholds Patriotism

“Oo, actually, ayaw talaga ng UE mag-import. Ine-encourage nga namin ‘yung ibang schools na bitiwan na ‘yung [pagkuha ng] import.”

Sir Roque said that this is "to give more Filipinos more and better chances to play".

Director Roque explained that during games, foreigners are now being paid more attention than the local athletes.

“It is about time we give more importance to Filipino players,” he added.

He further revealed that the decision of acquiring an import for the Red Warriors lies only in the Board of Trustees’ hands.

“Even if we want to get as much foreigner as possible, ‘pag sinabi ng management [na] “NO,” sino kami?” he said.

Sir Roque explained that the UE Board of Trustees decides by votation as the Athletic Department only waits for instruction.

“If they want it, then we can look for [an import], we can scout,” Roque added.

Director Roque pointed out two possible reasons why the Board of Trustees does not want to get any foreign player.

“Well, maybe some of the reasons why [they don't want to have imports are] number one, [it is] very expensive to maintain a foreign player and number two, [it is] very stressful to maintain a foreign player, kasi puro pasaway.”

Director Roque himself explained that he does not want any more imports for UE but possibly Fil-foreigners.

“Well, hindi naman masama magkaroon ng import…” he said. “Sa akin lang, tangkilikin natin ang sariling atin.”

He further observed that having an import does not always translate to victories. Citing Ibrahim Ouattara of UP who did not contribute on UP’s win against UST and that the Growling Tigers’ imports were not good enough to carry the UST team to a win.

“We don’t need foreign [players] to win,” he concluded.

Ayaw nila mag recruit ng import? All filipino daw.

UE RED WARRIORS' PERFORMANCE THROUGH THE YEARS

10 Key takeaways:

1. Having one or two foreign players doesn't equate to a championship - Season 77.

2. Our All-Filipino line-up did not bid well against teams with African players - Seasons 73, 74, 78, and 79.

3. Being "pasaway" is not limited to foreign players. Filipino players are also "pasaway". Remember, Sumang was benched once by Coach Derrick for disciplinary actions during Season 77. Casajeros and Olivarez were suspended for being "pasaway" in the court which greatly affected our campaign during Season 76. We also had local players who were suspected for game-fixing allegations.

4. Succesful Pre/Post- Season campaigns won't translate to a successful UAAP Season. Just like in the pre-season of Season 76 where UE won the Fioil Tournament but we only managed to end the season at the 6th spot. We were also tagged as the "Off-season Champions" during the James Yap-era where we won multiple off-season titles but failed to win a single UAAP title.

5. During the time when All-Filipino line-up was the norm, UE can dominate the league fair and square just like the 14-0 Season. With the exception of DLSU'S Ferdinand who is an Indonesian and ADMU'S Long who is an American.

6. The team's performance does not rely on who manages the team. When the team was managed by either the school or by Bong Tan, the team was successful and unsuccessful as well:

a. Under the school management - was able to reached the Final 4 twice from Season 70 and 71 with one Finals appearance in Season 70. But from Seasons 74-79, the team had missed the Final 4. (2-6 record)

b. With the full funding of Bong Tan and Tanduay - the team was able to reached the Finals once and was not able to qualify for the Final 4 the next year during Season 73, where Paul Lee suffered from a foot injury during the first round of eliminations. (1-1 record).

7. UE is now far from its former status as "the perennial Final 4 contender" it once was.

8. UE was bullied several times:

a. When the other teams saw UE as an emerging powerhouse during Season 77 with Mammie and Arafat in the roster, they immediately voted to limit the number of foreign players to one per team the next season.

b. During the time of UAAP Season 76 Commisioner Loyzaga, 3 vital cogs of the Red Warriors were meted with undue suspensions that affected our season - Mammie with two-game suspension, Ralf Olivarez with two-game suspension, and Casajeros with two-game suspension but was reduced to a one-game suspension.

c. Also, during the time of Commissioner Loyzaga, the suspended Ateneo Coach Bo Perasol was in the vicinity of the UE-ADMU game in the Mall of Asia Arena. He was sighted inside the dug-out during the halftime giving instructions to the Blue Eagles. The presence of a suspended player or coach in the immediate vicinity will mean a game forfeiture. The commissioner did not forfeit Ateneo's win and allowed Coach Perasol to just served the suspension on the next game. Ateneo defended by citing Ralf Olivares' presence during the same game who was also serving his suspension.

9. The UE Community's call to have an alumnus coach had varying results.

a. From 2007 to 2016, UE had an alumnus coach thrice - Boyzie Zamar, Jerry Codinera, and Derrick Pumaren.

b. The UE management has a penchant for DLSU Alumni - Dindo Pumaren, Lawrence Chongson, and Derrick Pumaren who played for UE then transferred to DLSU.

c. All of the parents of these DLSU alumni are UE graduates so to speak.

d. Two DLSU alumni brought UE in the UAAP Finals twice - Season 70 and Season 72.

10. Is an All-Filipino line-up really tantamount to patriotism in this day and age of globalization?

a. What would you feel if Rudy Lingganay was removed from the Kuala Lumpur Dragons' line-up by the virtue of patriotism? Or Kobe Paras from the US NCAA for that matter?

b. For how long can the UE management take this stand? The UE Community has been waiting for that elusive title for 32 years now.

c. We have a great coach with a tried and tested system. We have the share of prized and talented players, and UE definitely has the resources. But for the past years, the level of recruitment has leveled-up due to the financial generosity of the alumni to their Alma Mater - Manny Pangilinan of the Ateneo, and Danding Cojuangco of La Salle. And in recent years, we saw how NU rose from the ashes of oblivion to become the newest UAAP powerhouse. NU up the ante in the recruiting wars. The Bustillos Doghouse is now one of the top destination of blue-chip rookies, and even our outstanding highschool players tend to do a left-turn to Bustillos from Recto.

d. When will the UE management realize that UE is now the laughing stock of the social media community and various online forums?

-----

In spite of these shortcomings, I believe that the UE community will stand by our Alma Mater. We will support our team no matter what. Gone are the days of the fair-weathered fans.

We will stand and fight with the UE Red Warriors!

Together we will shout, Go Fight Red and White!

According to director Roque, UP's import Ibrahim Ouattara did not contribute to UP's win against UST. But today, he contributed big to the tune of 16++ rebounds against us. How's that for "not-effective".

Against UP, shot 7/25 in the 3-pt area while UP shot 8/27. Dikit lang.

Saan tayo nadale?

Tama ka stump, sa rebounding. Ang haba ng galamay ng import niya.

Yup saktong sakto yang article ni Olivares.

Maganda naman yung sistema, magagaling naman talents natin.

Dami lang umaalis at inaalis.. Mahigpit kasi si Manong. Di pwede ang mga pasaway.
