The UST Growling Tigers survive an early run by UE Red Warriors, 67-64 in the main game of the Seniors Division on May 25, 2012 of the FilOil Flying V preseason tournament at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.

Aljon Mariono drew 1st blood for UST with a 5-0 run but Adrian Santos and Dan Alberto pushed UE on top, 14-13 with 1:01 minutes left in the 1st period. Clark Bautista’s got the lead back for UST with back to back baskets, 16-14, in the closing seconds.

UE started to control the ball game in the 2nd quarter after the game was tied at 20-all with Santos and Roy Sumang leading the way. UE had a 5-point lead with 3:24 minutes left in the 1st half but Mariano’s 8 of his game high total of 18-points in the period had UST trailing by just one-point, 33-32 with 17 seconds to go. UE controlled the 1st half, 35-32.

In the 3rd quarter, after a basket by Chris Javier, the Growling Tigers scorched the Red Warriors with an 11-point attack to take a 6-point lead, 47-41, at the 3:20 minute mark behind Mariano, Jeric Fortuna and Karim Abdul, who had 13-points and 12 rebounds.

After responding with a 6-0 run at the close of the 3rd period to tie the game at 47-all, Jay-Ar Sumido and Sumang continued UE’s onslaught in the 4th quarter with a 4-point margin, 55-51 but the Growling Tigers countered with an 8-0 run, to snatch the lead back with a 6-point margin, 61-55 just under 4 minutes left to play.

Sumido, who had 9 of his total production of 11-points in the 4th period, kept the game close at 65-62 but Mariano’s 3 of 4 attempts from the Free Throw line sealed UST 3rd win in 6 outings. Mariano had a double-double performance with 18-points and 10 rebounds for the Growling Tigers.

UE had more blocked shots in this game, 8-5 but UST had more turnover points that the Red Warriors, 15-9.

Pinaglaro na yung Jeremy against DLSU, ayun turnover kagad. Nilabas kagad. Wag naman sana syang maging Gino Etrone and Nikko Montelibano na pagpasok pa lang ng court eh turnovers kagad.

Medyo ok naman kahit paano si Montelibano kesa kay Etrone lols.

What now for the Red Warriors?

Sana mapili ni coach ang mga tamang rookies for this season.

Nung game kasi ng UE vs DLSU nandun si Arafat nagchecheer for UE. Anyways, makikita natin next year hehe.

Wag naman sana.

Pero kung wala na talaga sya ok lang. Hindi naman ako pabor na magimport tayo. Just me lang naman.

I have to commend NCAA kasi pinagbawal na nila ang Import by 2013 or 2014 I think.

Anyway, thanks for the updates..sobrang busy ako sa trabaho kaya di na ako nakakabalita sa pre-season games.

Sobrang naglevel-up ang DLSU. Ano kaya ang maasahan natin sa team this season?

Wag naman sana tayo maging weeping boys.

Since 2002 sanay ako lagi tayo sa final 4, bigla cellar dwellar kainis. Ayusin naman sana yung mga recruits. Wag naman puro guards! Pakiusap!

At sana wag na hayaang mapirata yung magagaling natin sa team b!

Admin icemint, create na tayo ng thread para sa UAAP Season 75. NU agad kalaban natin sa opening.

NU hosts UAAP's 75th season at MOA
(The Philippine Star) Updated June 13, 2012 12:00 AM Comments (0)

MANILA, Philippines - University Athletic Association of the Philippines marks its diamond year with a theme “Unbreakable at 75” with National University as host of the event firing off July 14 at the newly opened Mall of Asia Arena.

“It will be NU versus UE and UST against FEU during our July 14 opening at the MOA,” said UAAP president Nilo Ocampo of host NU.

Rivals La Salle and defending champion Ateneo take on separate rivals the following day, Ocampo said, with the Green Archers facing the UP Maroons and the Blue Eagles squaring off with the Adamson University Falcons, also at the same venue.

“We chose the theme ‘Unbreakable at 75’ not only because we are celebrating 75 years of the league but also we hope to follow up on what Ateneo did as the previous host last year by putting up another enduring and glittering show,” said Ocampo.

He said the Bulldogs, under second-year coach Eric Altamirano and led by do-it-all guard Bobby Ray Parks Jr., will be going all out to make it to the championship after winding up a disappointing fifth place in last year’s Season 74.

“I believe that NU has gained maturity having been together for a year. My son, Bobby Jr., also understands coach Eric’s system now so the Bulldogs are definitely a better team, ” noted coach Bobby Parks Sr., who is an NU consultant.

The UAAP chief said veteran mentor Ato Badolato will be the tournament commissioner, adding that they will produce a technical manual that will detail the rules and regulations of the cage competitions “which the league has not done in quite a while.”

“Badolato’s instructions are to monitor the games closely to prevent brawls and bench-clearing incidents,” Ocampo said.

At least 60 percent of the basketball matches will be held at the MOA Arena while the rest will be played at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, he said, with the league continuing the practice of selling separate tickets for expected sellout La Salle-Ateneo matches.

Ocampo said that aside from men’s basketball, they also hope to lure fans to watch the other disciplines, pointing out that women’s volleyball has also generated a popular following among UAAP supporters and enthusiasts.

“There are other interesting sports worth watching like volleyball and we hope fans would watch them more on top of our basketball games,” he said.

The UAAP will stick to its usual first and second semester calendar with no new additional sports scheduled, Ocampo said.
